Camden Town Market, London - RIP Amy Winehouse
Camden Town Market, London - RIP Amy Winehouse
bit.ly RIP Amy Winehouse who lived and performed in and around Camden, London. Please note this video was filmed before Amy Winehouse passed away so comments and remarks regarding the singer may be irrelevant. Camden Town Market in London is one of the most interesting and diverse places to visit in the UK. There are actually several markets in Camden and there are many distinct items on sale including unique T-Shirts, Jewellery and world foods. There are also plenty of 'Earthy' places to eat and some very poor ones too! This busy part of Camden is in steep contrast to the quieter and 'cheaper' side which will be covered in another video in 1080p HD.

A look at Camden Market in London (HD)
A look at Camden Market in London (HD)
Camden Market Feb 2010, London. I think it's probably one of the best, if not *the* best, markets in the world. It's mainly for alternative lifestyles, and you'll see goths, punks, rockers, emos & eskimos all join together in one bizarre gathering. You could walk round there all day and still not see everything. The market's changed so much since the re-vamp, but it's an improvement. I used to go there a lot in my yoof to buy bootleg records. The market now seems a lot bigger and you'll see a lot of huge statues around. Mostly horse sculptures, because part of the market used to be a horse stable (established in 1854). The facilities have improved too, and I would guess there are a lot more stalls selling everything from art to old collectable toys. I put together this video montage for anyone to take a look. The camera was super shakey, so a lot is in slow-mo. See for yourself...... Enjoy the video and comments are welcome. London Markets - North Cross Road, East Dulwich
I headed down to the market in North Cross Road in East Dulwich on Saturday morning to hang out with my camcorder and see what shots I could grab. I had such a great time chatting with the local traders and their mates - everyone as so friendly and seemed to enjoy mugging for the camera. What was really distracting throughout was the wonderful smell of the hog roast you see at the start of the film. I couldn't wait to finish shooting and get some take-home boxes for lunch. And I can tell you - it was as yummy as it looked.... The soundtrack is "Hotcake Syrup" by Derek K. Miller from the Podsafe Music Network at music.podshow.com

Petticoat Lane Market London
Petticoat Lane Market London
Short video showing some of the stalls at the Petticoat Street Market across the street from Liverpool Train/Tube Station Petticoat Lane Market is a fashion and clothing market located on Wentworth Street and Middlesex Street in East London. It is one of a number of traditional markets, lying to the east of the City of London. A few hundred yards to the north is Old Spitalfields market, and across Commercial Street, to the east, lies Brick Lane Market. Nearby is the newly-refurbished Spitalfields Market, which houses a more upmarket selection of stalls. A half mile further east is the Columbia Road Flower market. Petticoat Lane Market was not formally recognised until an Act of Parliament in 1936, but its long history as an informal market makes it possibly one of the oldest surviving markets in Britain. The market is open Monday to Friday on Wentworth Street alone, but on Sunday extends over many of the surrounding streets, with over a thousand stalls. It is closed on Saturday, and on Sunday closes at about 2 pm. The markets are well signed from local stations.

A walk round the famous Portobello Market in Notting Hill, London UK (HD)
Portobello is one of the most well known London markets, alongside Camden. It does have a lot of music and retro goods, but overall it specialises more in antiques and has a less arty feel than Camden. Some of the price tags are not for the feint hearted! But definitely worth a visit. Here's what Wiki has to say about this market - "Portobello Road is a street in the Notting Hill district of The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in west London, England. It runs almost the length of Notting Hill from south to north, roughly parallel with Ladbroke Grove. On Saturdays it is home to Portobello Road Market, one of London's notable street markets, known for its second-hand clothes and antiques. Every August since 1996 the Portobello Film Festival has been held in locations around Portobello Road." Hoep you enjoy the video, comments are welcome. London 2008 - The Portobello Market
Finally I succeeded getting to London after my one day delay in Salzburg. After arriving late on May 9, 2008, I got a good night's sleep at the Zetter Hotel, a hip boutique hotel in the Clerkenwell area. The next day, after a delicious breakfast, my travel partner Andrea and I got going early to start our discoveries. We walked past historic medieval St. John's Gate and admired the Victorian era Smithfield Market. From here I took my first ride on the Tube (London's famous subway system) to the historic St. Pancras Railway Station which is now the terminal for the Eurostar Trains, connecting London with the Continent. We then walked over to neighbourhing King's Cross Railway Station where we checked out Platform 9 3/4 of Harry Potter fame. Our next destination was the Portobello Market, an ecclectic mix of fresh vegetables, fruit, baked goods, enticing aromas from all sorts of delicious freshly made street food, funky clothes, furs and antiques. After our interview with Michael Williams, one of the organizers of the Notting Hill Carnival (a Caribbean-style carnival and Europe's biggest street party) we walked through the serene streets of Notting Hill and Kensington before we embarked on a brief tour of Little Beirut, a heavily middle-Eastern influenced area on Edgeware Road. A tube ride later we arrived at Hyde Park Corner where to my disappointment nobody was giving any speeches or ranting about anything. Only two older gentlemen were sitting on two soap boxes and ...

Tower Bridge Road Market (1931)
Tower Bridge Road Market (1931)
This remarkable film showing working class London life was shot around 1931. The majority of the film concentrates on the major street market at the Bricklayer's Arms end of Tower Bridge Road. Although shot without sound, they capture the hustle and bustle of the busy streets wonderfully. We see numerous shops - housed greengrocers, butchers, a baker, a clothes dealer and even a colourman (paint seller). Watch out for a shot of Manzes Pie & Mash shop at number 87, established in 1902 and still open for business today. Almost as fascinating as the people and traders is the range of vehicles captured. These include tradesmen's carts, a tricycle, horse-drawn carts, steam and motor lorries, and - surprisingly - what appears to be a private carriage with a liveried driver. Petticoat Lane (1903)
Petticoat Lane (1903)
Sunday morning in the East End market. This fascinating film provides an authentic view of London's East End from over a hundred years ago. Flat-capped men flow in a Sunday morning tide down Middlesex Street - better known by its unofficial name, Petticoat Lane - just as they have for generations. This most Cockney of London markets caters to the second clothes trade: at the time when this film was made, the market was dominated by the East End street sellers and the Jewish rag trade. As the camera pans across the market, we see the traders raised above the general level, barking at the crowd. The few women in the picture are stall-holders, selling patched-up trousers and restored boots, while a nearby card sharp tempts the punters.
